The All-American Soap Box Derby, "The Greatest Amateur Event in The World" is a youth gravity racing program for boys and girls ages 8 through 17 years old. The goals of the Soap Box Derby program have not changed since it began in 1934...to promote families working together, to teach children some basic skills by developing...
· Science and Technology - SBD racers improve basic hand tool skills while learning how
to utilize the principles of conservation of energy and aerodynamics.
· Teamwork - From assembling their cars to working with their own pit crew, SBD racers
must meet the challenges of effective teamwork.
· Community Service - SBD racers experience the value of a community working together
for the betterment of all. It takes help from all to run a race.
· Family Bonds - SBD helps bring families together by having a common goal to work
toward together.
· Leadership - As kids mature they learn to provide leadership and coaching to the younger
racers.
· Diversity - Our diverse group of racers teaches tolerance. Kids make new friends!

You can race as little or as much as you want. The main event is the Local All-American Race. The winners of each division for this event represent the city of Indianapolis in Akron, OH at the World Championship All American Soap Box Derby. In addition to the local, you can participate in rallies that are held locally and at other cities throughout the US. Finally, in addition to the Local Race mentioned above, the Indianapolis Soap Box Derby Association sponsors the Mayor’s Cup race for the Inner City Youth Racing League and a Challenger Division Race for special needs children. "For more information about all race programs please contact ISBDA.”

Life long bonds are developed as the “Derby Experience” is shared. As you coach your young driver you not only strengthen your relationship but improve lines of communication. Your entire family benefits from being members of “the team” and working together for a common goal. Making new friends is an added bonus as you compare set up notes and driving techniques. Most important... It’s a lot of fun!
